Floods affect 90,000 people in Sichuan

Heavy rains that started on July 8 in Sichuan, south-west China, have left people across the province in danger, reports Jiemian. The rains have caused rivers in the region to reach dangerously high levels, and damaged low-lying regions in Mianyang, Guangyuan, Deyang and Chengdu. As of July 10, 87,900 people had been directly affected and 2,400 evacuated. Direct economic losses are estimated to be 134 million yuan (US$20 million). In response to the flooding, Sichuan province issued a red weather warning, the highest level. It was last issued in 2013.
