Dear L-list colleagues,
On behalf of the Food Climate Research Network, University of
Oxford, I would like to share with you all a new report that we have
published today 'Grased and Confused?' written
by an international group of authors, from many institutions.
The
newly published report dissects claims made by different stakeholders
in the debate about so called 'grass - fed' beef, the greenhouse gases
the
animals emit, and the possibility that, through their grazing actions,
they can help remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
It
evaluates these claims and counterclaims against the best available
science, providing an authoritative and evidence - based answer to the
question:
Is grass - fed beef good or bad for the climate?
The
findings will be of interest to those working on reducing emissions in
the agriculture and land use sectors, while at the same time, creating
food
systems that are sustainable and capable of nurishing 9+ billion people
in 2050.
The
report, report summary, blog, expert commentary, and webinar recording
presenting the findings can be found on our project page:
