National Call: Is this what climate change looks like?

Dear Friend,
On Thursday, October 12 at 3 pm Eastern / 2 pm Central / 1 pm Mountain / 12 noon Pacific time, the Climate Reality Check team will hold the latest in our series of national conference calls to help strengthen community organizing on climate, entitled:
#CoverClimate: Advocating for Accurate and Abundant Climate Reporting
Join Susan Joy Hassol of Climate Communication who will lead a discussion on how to communicate climate science to the media and in our advocacy and David Arkush of Public Citizen who will talk about a new campaign to improve national and local climate coverage.
Coverage of the global climate crisis is on the decline - media reports on the crisis are too few; fail to connect extreme weather events to a warming planet; and still perpetuate debunked and discredited denialist claims.
The bottom line is: we can’t fix the climate crisis if we are not talking about it - and talking about it accurately and A LOT.
Our esteemed presenters will:
·         Translate climate science associated with extreme weather events into language we can use;
·         Model good climate communications: clear, often, through story;
·         Provide analysis on climate coverage in the media;
·         Brief on a new project to improve climate reporting; and
·         Share ways to get involved!
You won’t want to miss this call—RSVP here: https://goo.gl/forms/skiih0rE0kQhB4Df2

Talk to you soon!
The CRC team* – Allison, Nancy, Jean and Ted
*The CRC team is Allison Fisher, Public Citizen, Nancy LaPlaca, NC WARN, Jean Su, the Center for Biological Diversity and Ted Glick, Beyond Extreme Energy and movement builder.

David Arkush is the director of Public Citizen’s climate program. David spent five years directing Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division, where he led strategic research and organizing campaigns and played an instrumental role in the passage of laws including the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 and the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. A TIME Magazine profile of David notes that he has “advocated for consumer protection, advised breaking up the largest, too-big-to-fail banks and addressed other industry-structure issues, while investigating the financial sector’s myriad ties to the government.” David has also taught Administrative Law and Legislation at the University of Richmond School of Law.
