Chinese experts respond to IPCC Special Report

The IPCC’s major report on the implications of 1.5 degrees of warming was picked up by several media outlets in China. Caixin captured responses from Chinese experts. Jiang Kejun, one of the Chinese authors of the report commented that it might be the most important report produced by the IPCC. He said that keeping to 1.5 degrees may be particularly important in China. Tsinghua professor Teng Fei pointed out that 1.5 isn’t far off, in fact, most regions in China are already experiencing it (see how in Carbon Brief’s great interactive map). Greenpeace research shows that the Tibetan plateau has warmed at a rate twice as fast as the global average, affecting glaciers in China that are the source of 10 major Asian rivers.
