In what ways are urban and rural areas different when it comes to sustainability? How do we create stronger linkages between the urban and the rural parts of our regions? What are the synergies and what are obstacles?

This COP23 side event organized by Nordregio, an international research centre for regional development and planning established by the Nordic Council of Ministerswill focus on the interplay between rural and urban development from a climate perspective. You will also be introduced to an upcoming White Paper on Nordic Sustainable Cities, part of the Nordic Prime Minister’s initiative on Nordic Solutions to Global Challenges.

Where: Nordic Council of Ministers’ Pavilion (area D-8)
When: November 11, from 11.45 to 12.45
(followed by a light lunch)

The White Paper on Nordic Sustainable Cities features five tools instrumental in creating sustainable development in the Nordics, including spatial planning systems, public-private partnerships, the role of civil society as well as corporate social responsibility along with overall innovation efforts.
