My book The Archipelago of Hope is a labor of love, an important steppingstone on a winding road of discovery, and a chance to reflect on the lessons learned. The quest might be personal, but the pursuit is by no means a solitary one. The journey would not have been possible without the generosity, kindness, and support of countless human and non-human beings that I have been fortunate to meet and travel alongside.
I am indebted to the Indigenous communities who have welcomed me into their lives, endured my ignorance, patiently shared their wisdom, while steering me toward a deeper understanding of our changing world.
I am thankful to the Indigenous communities, organizations, and individuals profiled in the book for allowing me to take photographs, record interviews, and share these materials in a book, and related print acknowledgments and web-based publications and exhibits, to help raise awareness about climate change.
I can only hope that the important stories I have tried to capture visually and write about, do some justice to the wisdom and resilience of the Indigenous cultures; the beauty of their ancestral territories; and the significance of their traditional knowledge, wisdom, and governance, for the well-being of us all.
The Archipelago of Hope is on sale now. All proceeds from the sale of the book and donations go toward “The Archipelago of Hope Indigenous Resilience Fund,” established through Land is Life (www.landislife.org), which is meant to support the communities profiled in the book.To date, the book has received a number of positive reviews: Orion Magazine, Cultural Survival, WNYC, BlueDot, Revelator. If you find the book and the stories compelling, please share the Archipelago of Hope messages through your networks.
Best wishes,
